Problem & Context

Assignment: Studio Schrofer has asked us to create a lighting system that can be easily delivered through a mail slot.

Target Group: 15-30 years old

Context: Due to the Covid-19 restrictions people are not able to leave their houses thus increasing the rate of online shopping. Additionally, almost all physical stores are closed. With the current increase of products bought from online shopping, postal offices aren’t able to deliver the product to the users on time. Because people are in their house much more often than they were used to, they have also discovered a need for customizability of their space(s).

Design Statement: We want to create a lighting system that allows the user to customize their space and allow them to feel more comfortable in their home. Our solution will also be appealing to our target audience because of the interactivity and environmental values our product brings. Additionally, to lessen the pressure on postal services, we need to create a product that can be delivered through any mailbox. This will drastically lessen the amount of time the product will take to arrive, adding to the desirability of the product.

Concept (1 of 3)

Each team member created a different concept for this project, mine being concept 1. After getting feedback and having many discussions with the client, we decided to make a final concept that essentially combines all three of these individual concepts.

Concept 1:
Lego-like LED cubes attached by magnets

Concept 2:
Customizable LED bars with app controller

Concept 3:
Adjustable table lamp
